Candidates for all offices must file their nomination papers during this three hour period. Nominations cannot be filed in advance nor accepted after 12 o’clock noon.
Nomination Day is 4 weeks before Election Day.
The clock in the Council Chamber will determine the time for the opening and closing of nominations. Prospective candidates who are not inside the Chambers by 12 o’clock noon precisely will not be permitted to file their nomination. Nomination papers must be accompanied by the required deposit.
Alberta Municipal Affairs, which is responsible for the LAEA, has stated that FACSIMILE transmission of nomination papers is NOT acceptable.
The prescribed nomination papers are available only from the Elections & Census Office, 1103 – 55 Avenue NE. The Nomination Paper and Candidate’s Acceptance is Form 3 of the LAEA Forms Regulation, Alberta Regulation 106/2007 as amended May 2013. All information on the nomination paper is available to the public, including candidate’s and electors’ addresses and candidate’s phone number.
Other persons may file the nomination paper on behalf of a candidate, however, the candidate is the person responsible for ensuring the nomination paper is completed properly.
All nomination papers must be signed by the candidate and commissioned by a Commission for Oaths in and for the Province of Alberta.
