As a young mother, small business owner, and a passionate Calgarian, Brandy Payne is excited to be working with Rachel Notley and Alberta’s New Democrats to provide leadership for what matters in this election.

Brandy was born and raised in Calgary, growing up in the southeast of the city before moving to Ottawa to pursue a degree in Journalism at Carleton University. Brandy experienced the challenges posed by PC cuts firsthand and those experiences informed the political values of fairness, equal access to opportunities, and a focus on families that have driven her to run in this election. While going to school at Carleton, Brandy got her first taste of political organizing working with her fellow students to ensure accessibility to post-secondary education for all students regardless of financial circumstances.

After exploring a career in Journalism, Brandy continued her work on education advocacy as the Policy and Research Coordinator for the Simon Fraser Student Society. In 2006, Brandy moved back to Calgary and spent a number of years working in the Oil and Gas sector before earning a teaching certificate as a yoga instructor. Currently, Brandy runs a small business offering clients practical methods to reduce chronic pain and strengthen their physical capacity through yoga therapy.

Brandy lives in Calgary-Acadia with her husband Scott and their young daughter Zoe. Brandy knows that after 44 years of PC incompetence and broken promises, it is time for a new way in Alberta politics that puts the priorities of Alberta families first. Brandy is committed to working with Rachel Notley and Alberta’s New Democrats to give every Albertan the opportunities they deserve with high-quality and accessible education, well-funded public health care, and a strong and diverse provincial economy.
