Kathy Macdonald, M.O.M., is the Wildrose Party candidate for M.L.A. in the constituency of Calgary-Mackay-Nose Hill. As a resident of Calgary for over 40 years, she began her 25-year career with the Calgary Police Service working in communities within Calgary-Mackay-Nose Hill. She is married to Wade Mills, an elementary school teacher and together with their daughter, a student at the Alberta College of Art and Design and their family dog, Pearls, they live next to beautiful Nose Hill Park.
From extensive media responsibilities to presenting at hundreds of local and international conferences, Kathy has dedicated years of public service in order to protect children from online exploitation and increase security on the Internet. In 2009 Kathy was recognized for her commitment to law enforcement and to the community by being Invested by the Governor General of Canada, with the Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces (M.O.M.).
Kathy has worked closely at the government level on many projects. She has contributed to publications including the International Telecommunications Union (UN) Toolkit for Cybercrime Legislation; Responding to Victims of Identity Theft, A Manual for Law Enforcement Agents, Prosecutors and Policy-Makers; School Bullying, How Long is the Arm of the Law, American Bar Association and A Canadian's Guide To Money-Smart Living, Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. In 2013, she was invited to participate on behalf of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) Science for Peace and Security Program for a workshop relating to computer network response to protecting critical infrastructure. Kathy is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and holds a Master's Degree in Science with Merit (MSc.) in Security and Risk Management.
Kathy is an avid amateur athlete, a tennis player, runner and fitness enthusiast. She is currently on the board for the Rosedale Tennis Club where she coordinates lessons for youth programs. As a candidate for Wildrose, Kathy looks forward to serving current and future generations of Albertans, working closely with constituents and taking action towards building a province that is safer, more prosperous, and more accountable to the people of Alberta.
