Irfan Sabir is a Calgary based Lawyer who is running for Alberta NDP from Calgary-McCall Area.

He grew up and got his early education in Kashmir, Pakistan. Completed his Masters in Economics from University of Azad Kashmir in 2001 before moving to Hong Kong in 2003. While in Hong Kong, Irfan volunteered for Asian Human Rights Commission and assisted the Commission in identifying and preparing reports of human rights violations in south East Asia. He helped refugee claimants with their claims filing. He also helped in organizing a conference on “Rule of Law and Human Rights Education” during the time there.

Irfan moved to Canada in 2004 and made Calgary his home and have lived here ever since. After settling down and working as a licensed Realtor for 2 years, Irfan enrolled himself in Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary to complete his Masters in Social Work. During his Master, Irfan was involved in research work for two Not-for-Profit initiative, named The Downtown Community Initiative and The Alberta Community Economic Development Network. In 2007, to pursue a career in law, Irfan got enrolled in U of C law Faculty. He completed his Juris Doctor degree in 2012. During his studies, Irfan worked for The Salvation Army’s Centre of Hope in Calgary in their Men’s Addiction Recovery Program for 5years and volunteered for Alberta Family Justice and Student Legal Assistance.

After Finishing his Law degree, Irfan has been working in a Calgary based Law Firm, which specialises in First Nation & Aboriginal legal arbitrations & legislations. At present, Irfan has been volunteering for Red Cross Canada and Calgary Legal Guidance.

Irfan has been a strong advocate for basic human rights and civil liberties all his life and believes in and stands for a responsible government that works for all Albertans. He is contesting the provincial elections from Calgary-McCall as a member of NDP Alberta team.
