As a former senior employee of Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, Evert Smith has a passion for Alberta’s resource sector. Unfortunately, politics and poor planning by the provincial government continue to create nothing but uncertainty for industry while doing minimal compliance to maintain a healthy environment. Evert’s vision for Alberta includes renewable energy, economic diversification, better environmental monitoring and compliance, healthy communities, large term infrastructure planning, provincial land use planning, a meaningful relationship with First Nations, enhanced cooperation with municipalities and long term environmental policy for water, air and land.

Born in Calgary, Evert has lived in every region of the province and has come to understand the needs of each region and the aspirations of the people that live there. With over 32 years of experience, he has worked with every level of stakeholders including industry, land owners and First Nations. Evert has also managed substantial research budgets for both the public and private sectors. Most important, multiple awards in integrated land management, communications and technology - which includes three Premier’s Awards - highlights that he also has the drive to move ideas forward.

Evert Smith has three children and four grandchildren. His wife passed away in 2011 after prolonged medical issues. Evert currently works as a resource consultant and is an active member of the Alberta Party policy committee.
