Born in Gatineau, Quebec, Thana Boonlert spent his early years in Ottawa, Ontario attending French school boards and speaking fluently in French, English, and Thai. He later attended the University of Guelph, where he graduated with a Bachelors of Engineering Degree in Environmental Engineering. While enrolled, he participated in several engineering conferences on policy making and engagement, while also being involved in the school's board of Senators, representing the engineering department on education and financial matters.
From a young age, Thana has been passionate about the environment and politics. Through literature and observing several influential figures in his life –Elizabeth May being one of them– he has come to realize the sensitivity and inter-connectivity between humans and the environment. For this reason, he has put his efforts into having a strong technical background, coupled with adept social skills, with the goal of being able to implement and convey proper solutions to environmental, social and economic issues.
Currently an Environmental Compliance Specialist, Thana deals with regulations and laws regarding products in high tech industry. Prior to this, he was an Air Emissions Specialist, analyzing data from several oil and gas facilities, while working closely with stakeholders, as well as provincial and federal regulators.
At work, Thana is currently involved in fundraising efforts for Free the Children, and is actively organizing and recruiting coworkers for the Calgary Corporate Challenge. In his spare time, he volunteers throughout the city, attends networking events regarding renewable energy and local food production, plays hockey, writes music, and is often found in the mountains enjoying Mother Nature.
