An award-winning television anchor and journalist, Nirmala Naidoo has listened to and shared the stories of Calgarians for years, and now she wants to bring those voices to Ottawa as Member of Parliament for Calgary Rocky Ridge.
Nirmala graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Political Science and went on to study journalism at Carleton University in the prestigious graduate one-year Honours program.
For 19 years, Nirmala has been in the living rooms of Calgarians as a prime-time news anchor for Global Calgary and CBC Calgary. Prior to that, she was a journalist for CTV’s W5 and worked overseas in London, England as a television journalist during the first Gulf War. She has won many awards for her journalism, is a two time Avenue Magazine “Top 40 Under 40” alumni, has been profiled in several magazines including a cover story for TIME Magazine in 1991, and is officially designated “a person of extraordinary ability” in the field of journalism by the U.S. government. After leaving journalism in 2013, Nirmala worked in the Oil and Gas industry. Nirmala and her husband are the proud parents of two wonderful sons.
